Hey there -
As I mentioned last week, I'm working on formatting my articles to be more visual and quickly understood (without dumbing down the content).
I'm also changing this weekly email newsletter to be more to the point! Your time is valuable, and I want to provide relevant and important information in a way that respects that.
Gratefully yours,
~ Debbie Moon
Updated and New on Genetic Lifehacks:
PCOS:
Genetic variants point to four root cause pathways in PCOS. The solutions in the Lifehacks section are now grouped according to these pathways. The update includes the new study on artemisinin, which was shown to decrease ovarian androgen synthesis in PCOS.
Leaky gut and emulsifiers in processed foods:
Many packaged foods contain emulsifiers to extend their shelf life. These emulsifiers can thin out the mucosal layer protecting your intestines. In some people, the combination of genetic variants and emulsifiers increases gut inflammation, barrier dysfunction, and the risk of IBD.
Parkinson's Disease:
Updated article on Parkinson's to include information about changes to the gut microbiome in PD. A new study shows that the microbiome changes likely influence riboflavin, biotin, and short-chain fatty acids produced in the gut.
Site Security:
I've been working on blocking the people who are scraping my content and the constant hacking attempts. It's a balance between giving my users a free hand and blocking the nefarious actors. If you get a 429 error message, please drop me an email and let me know!
Interesting studies:
The causal role of circadian disruption in Autism, ADHD:
A new bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization study shows a causal role of circadian rhythm disturbance in both autism spectrum disorder and ADHD. The study also independently found that higher sleep efficiency was protective against ASD.
Long Covid pathway study:
Researchers looked at the different pathways that were upregulated in people who ended up getting long Covid, compared with people who cleared the SARS-CoV-2 virus without lingering effects. The results showed that people who ended up with long Covid had slower clearance of the virus, dysregulation of the complement system, altered fibrinolysis, and upregulated IL-7.
ATP levels, circadian rhythm.
This 2019 study showed that mitochondrial ATP production varies by up to 40% over the course of 24 hours. ATP production was highest in the morning and lowest at night.
